Internal Quality Assurance Cell


IQAC


The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) advocated the establishment of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) by all the accredited institutions as a post accreditation quality sustenance activity. The primary aim of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic and administrative performance of the institution. IQAC of Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science actively involves in the quality improvement in various dimensions of the institution. To develop quality education the IQAC conducts various activities like FDP, Workshops and Seminars.


FUNCTIONS CARRIED OUT BY THE IQAC:


 Organisation of workshops, seminars, conferences on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles.

 Faculty Development Programmes

 Training sessions are organized to facilitate the faculty members to prepare for UGC-NET and SLET exams.

 Dissemination of information on the various quality parameters of higher education.

 Documentation of the various programs/activities leading to quality improvement.

 Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) based on the quality parameters is submitted to NAAC every year.

      Internal Quality Assurance Cell A Report of NAAC Sponsored State Level   Seminar on “Innovative Practices in Higher Education” 6thJuly,2013

      The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science has organised a one day State Level Seminar on “Innovative Practices in higher education” on 6th July 2013 under the auspices of NAAC. The seminar has been well attended by 150 participants from various districts and Chennai. The Seminar was inaugurated byDr. G. Koteswara Prasad, Registrar Incharge, University of Madras. He emphasized the importance of Research, consultancy and extension activities in his inaugural address and has highlighted the change in the scenario of higher education from traditional methods to innovative methods of teaching. The Chief Guest released the edited volume of seminar proceedings which contains 27 articles published by the faculties, HODs and Principals of various colleges and universities.

      After the inaugural session, the first technical session was chaired by Dr. K. Sundar, Associate Professor, Commerce Wing,(DDE), Annamalai University, Chidambaram on “Creative Teaching Methods”. He has highlighted the different innovative teaching methods that can be deployed in class rooms and entrusted the types and benefits of those teaching methods.


      The Second technical session on “Continuous Quality Improvement in teaching Methodology” was chaired by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, Director, Eco Science Research Foundation, Chennai. He enlightened the audience with simple and effective teaching methods. The session was interactive and participatory which generated tremendous appreciation and exclamation.


      The paper presentation session in the first avenue (A.V. Room) was chaired by Dr. Ramalingam, Director, Management Studies, Dr. M.G.R. University, Madras on “Effective Use of Technology for Efficient Class Room Teaching”. The paper presentation session in second avenue (Mini Auditorium) was chaired byDr. E. Bhaskaran, Deputy Director, Industries and Commerce, Tamilnadu Government on “Innovative practices in higher education”. Eleven delegates presented papers on various related topics.


      The valedictory address was given by Dr. N. Godhantaraman, Director I/C, UGC Academic Staff College, University of Madras, Chennaiin the valedictory function. Certificates were distributed to the paper presenters and participants. Feedbacks were received from the delegates for facilitating improvements in future. 40 members representing outstation colleges from Trichy, Villupuram, Madurai, Coimbatore have attended this seminar. 25 members from other Chennai colleges and 100 members of our teaching staff attended the seminar. The objective of the seminar was successfully achieved with the interactive participation of resource persons and delegates.





    Conference 2017

    The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of our college organized a one day National Conference on “QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE – Key Levers to Quality Sustenance in Higher Education” on 4th March 2017.

    The Conference was inaugurated by the Joint Director, Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai Region, Dr.S.Sasikala who delivered an enlightening speech on ‘Quality in Higher Education’. The Guest of Honor, Dr.M.R.Srinivasan, Professor & Head, Statistics Department, Dean CDC I/C, University of Madras, emphasized the need for quality sustenance in higher educational institutions.

    Many academicians and scholars from all over India presented papers in related topics which were compiled as an edited volume of conference proceedings, bearing ISBN number. The edited volume of deliberations was released by the Chief Guest Dr.S.Sasikala and the first copy was received by the Guest of Honor, Dr.M.R.Srinivasan. After a relaxing tea break, the first technical session on the topic ‘Research Environment in Higher Educational Institutions’ was discussed by Dr.K.Namasivayam, Professor & Head, Department of Physics, IQAC Coordinator, Gurunanak College, Chennai. He highlighted the essentials of a good research environment and how it can support and motivate scholars to take up more effective research in higher education institutions.

    Shri.R.Gunasekaran, Telecom Engineer, BSNL, Chennai, was the Resource person for the II Technical Session entitled ‘Institution Industry – Bridging the gap’. The need for practical applicability of the higher education, the expectation of the competitive world, the opportunities available to acquire knowledge, skill and attitude by the students were emphasized in this session. The post lunch session commenced with Paper Presentation Session which was chaired by Dr.N.Viswanathan, Associate Professor, Department of Statistics, Presidency College, Chennai. Academicians and Scholars from various educational institutions actively participated and presented their research findings, suggestions, views and opinions on the given topics, through power point presentation, which paved way to diversified perspectives.

    Conference 2015

    The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Asan Memorial college of Arts & Science organised a National Conference on "Quality Enrichment - A Pinnacle for Higher Educational Institutions" on 21st February 2015. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. S. Thirumagan, Controller of Examinations, University of Madras who gave a valuable input needed for the faculty members for framing strategies for achieving quality excellence in education. Dr. J. Vasantha kumar, IQAC Director & Dean, Dept. of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, the guests of honor for the inaugural session, enlightened the audience on the latest trends in the education sector in the sphere of various areas during his inaugural address.

    Papers were invited related to the conference theme which are edited and published as a book volume with ISBN Number. It is released by Dr. S. Thirumagan, Controller of Examinations, University of Madras. The conference also released the book Managerial Economics, Yappu Ilakkiam authored by our faculty members Mrs. T. Aryamala, Professor in charge of Shift II and Dr. Sathesh, Assistant Professor in Tamil, Shift II respectively.

    The inaugural session was followed by a Technical Session by Dr. Edamana Prasad, Associate Professor, Chemistry Dept. and Head, Teaching Learning Centre, I.I.T. Madras, Chennai on the topic “Quality Enrichment”. His special lecture exposed the audience on the latest happenings in the quality education.

    The second Technical session on “Industry Academia Interface” commenced by Dr. V. Pasupathy, Scientist. The session was very dynamic with the participants taking earnest interest in the deliberations of the session. Paper Presentation was under the chairmanship of Dr. Anitha Rajendran, Head, Dept. of Management Studies, Women’s Christian College, Chennai. The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Thangam Menon, Director, Dr. ALM PG IBMS, Chennai. She gave Certificates to Paper Presenters and Participants of the Conference.

    The valedictory session was graced by Prof.Dr.G.P.Raman, Controller of Examinations, SCSVMV University, Kanchipuram, who highlighted the felt need for quality enhancement and sustenance in higher educational institutions. At the end of the session, constructive feedbacks were solicited from the participants and certificates were distributed.


    Asan Memorial College IQAC – Faculty Development Programme

    The IQAC of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science, Chennai organized a Faculty Development Programme on “Educational Excellence” which provides an opportunity to sharpen and fine tune the teaching skills of the Faculty members on 25th June 2016. Dr. S. Thirumagan, Controller of Examinations, University of Madras, Chennai inaugurated the Faculty Development Programme and delivered a magnificent inaugural address. The resource person Mr. L. Ramanan, Founder and Subject Member Expert in Robust Engineering & RAISE Consultancy Services, Bangalore motivated the faculty members in the right direction to mould the future generations.
