About the Department
Department of Commerce, instituted in the year 1995, provides dynamic environment to chisel the young minds to be highly competitive and successful. It grows by leaps and bounds and establishes the branches of Commerce namely B.Com. (Computer Applications) in the year 2012-13 and B.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) in the year 2014-15. The department imparts knowledge, skills, positive attitude and ethical values through innovative and interactive methods of learning. The students are trained to have expertise to face the fast changing environment successfully.
The Department organises Guest Lectures, Employability Workshops, Exhibitions, State and National Level Seminars, and International Conferences for providing value addition to the students and for the benefit of the academic community. “SYNERGIA” – A Mega Intercollegiate Meet is organised every year to provide exposure to the varied nuance of organising an event and the practical exposure to event management. An exclusive workshop for the final year students of the department is organised to mould them for the college to corporate life transition. Industrial visits are also arranged to give rational perceptive of industry-academia interface to our students.

"Mr. George V Joseph, Financial Controller, Asan Memorial Educational Institutions gave an insight on ‘Salary Structure and Tax Planning’ to the final year students of B.Com. (General) and (Corporate Secretaryship) on 24th August 2016. The interactive session enlightened the students on the practical aspects of computation of Income Tax and an effective tax planning."
"Practical Aspects of Tally" - 18th August 2016
“The exposure to the practical applications of Tally in the industries is given to the second and third year B.Com (Computer Application) students through a guest lecture on "Practical Aspects of Tally" on 18th August 2016. Ms. Devaki, Senior Tally Trainer, Kalvi Group Acadamy, Chennai, gave the practical insights and shared the technicalities related to the Tally Software.”

A team from Sharekhan addressed and enlightened the B.Com (General and Corporate secretaryship) students on "Stock market and online share trading" on 17th August 2016. Mr. V. Krishnamurthy, Regional Advisory Manager & Mr. Mohan raj M, Team Manager Sales graced the occasion and interacted with the students and gave exposure to the techniques of online trading.

Workshop 2017 - 2018
Our Department organised a National Level workshop on “C2C Transition” i.e. “College to Corporate Transition” which focuses on chiselling the indispensable skills needed for a final year Commerce students to transform from college life to responsible corporate life on 19th August 2017. Mr. S. Santhosh, Director, Inflow Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore inaugurated the workshop and delivered a wonderful inaugural address.
The resource persons Mr. Kamaljith, Certified Corporate Trainer, M.D., SANGENTRA, Chennai presented an inspirational session on ‘Corporate Culture’, Mrs. Arathi Krishnakumar, Business Planning Manager to Head of HR-ITO & GBS, Standard Chartered Global Business Services, Chennai made an interactive session on ‘Corporate Expectations’ and Mr. D. Ramachandar, Chief Executive Officer, SAM Business Group, Chennai enlighten the students by propelling the views on ‘Dynamic Transition’.
CA M. Sathya Kumar, CEO & Founder, Tycoon+ Advisors, Chennai delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants of the workshop. Apart from our college final year students, 100 students from 12 renowned colleges like, Loyola, MCC, Hindustan, Sindhi college have participated in the workshop and benefited.

An exclusive workshop on “C2C Transition” was organised on 29th February 2016 i.e. College to Corporate Transition which focuses on chiseling the indispensable skills needed for a final year Commerce students to transform from college life to responsible corporate life. Mrs. Niroopa Paulson, Asst. General Manager, TCS, Chennai inaugurated the workshop and delivered a magnificent inaugural address. The resource persons Mr. Jaydip, Project Leader, Cognizant, Chennai and Mr. Kamaljith, Certified Corporate Trainer and M.D. SANGENTRA, Chennai enlightened the students and throws light on the techniques of the C2C Transition.
A workshop on “How to become a Chartered Accountant?” was organised for the First Year students of B.Com. (General, C.A., & C.S.) on 11th January 2016. C A Santhoshni and C A Karthikeyan of Virtus Academy, Chennai were the resource persons.
A workshop on “FINANCIAL EDUCATION” was organised by Investor Awareness Division of SEBI for the Second Year students of B.Com. (G) on 20th January 2016 and for B.Com. (C.A., & C.S.) on 8th February 2016.

Department of Commerce organised a Seminar on SAP for the final year students of B.Com. (G, C.A. & C.S.) on 21st July 2017. Mr. Rajesh, SAP Consultant, from Ren Info, Tata Consultancy Services, Chennai addressed the students. The session throws light on the practical usage of the software and future prospects of the software and its applications.

The Department organized a one day National Level Seminar on ‘Winning Strategies’ on 17th September 2008. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri. CHANDRASEKAR IOFS, ndc, Senior General Manager, Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi, Chennai. Around 200 participants from 28 colleges attended the seminar.
Ms. SIVASANKARI renowned writer and activist delivered the valedictory address and distribute the Certificates. The seminar focused on the managerial skills covering Values and Visions, Leadership, Communication Skills and Stress Management. The Resource Persons includes Vijay fame Mr. Kishore Kumar, Sr. Principal, St. John’s Residential School, Mr. Murli krishnan, C.E.O., Think Future, HR Consultants Pvt. Second International Conference 2014
The Department of Commerce organized its Second International Conference on “E-BUSINESS-A PARADIGM SHIFT IN THE CONTEMPORARY SCENARIO” on 27th and 28th August 2014. Mr. Cornelius Conlon, Founder Director and CEO, Merit Group Ltd, Birmingham, U.K. inaugurated the Conference and delivered the inaugural address. Dr.P.David Jawahar, Registrar, University of Madras, Chennai and Mr. Neil Prem, Founder and International Director, Future Possibilities, Cambridge, U.K. were the guest of honour during the Inaugural function.
Papers were invited from academicians, industrialists, research scholars and UG & PG students related to the conference theme and the articles collected were compiled in the form of an edited book with ISBN number and the same has been released during the Inaugural session. Resource persons for the technical sessions and panel experts were invited across the country from East Africa, Argentina, U.K., etc.
Mr. Ruban Hobday delivered the Valedictory address. Mrs. K. Saraswathy, Secretary General, Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Chennai and Dr. K.P.V. Ramanakumar, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, SCSVMV University, Kanchipuram were the guest of honour during the Valedictory function.
First International Conference
An International Conference on “Corporate Excellence in Challenging Global Scenario” was conducted on 27th & 28th September for the first time. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Matthjis Cornellisen, Director, Indian Psychology Institute, Pondicherry and Dr. K.P.V. Ramanakumar, Professor and Dean, Department of Management Studies, SCSVMV University, Kanchipuram and Dr. E. Bhaskaran, Deputy Director of Industries & Commerce, Government of Tamilnadu were the guests of honour for the inaugural session.
Technical sessions were held on both days where academicians with rich experience were invited as chair persons. Two books were released in the Inaugural function. Dr. S. Bhaskaran, Chairman, Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants. The Conference was well attended and appreciated by participants, academicians, research scholars and guests.

"SYNERGIA 2K16" on - 01st October 2016
The Commerce Department of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science, Chennai has organised a Mega Inter-Collegiate Meet - “Synergia 2K16” on 1st October 2016. Mr. G Srinivasan, General Manager, Ford Business Services Center Pvt. Ltd., Chennai has graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Nearly 200 participants from 20 colleges in and around Chennai have participated in the meet. Renowned colleges like A.M. Jain College, M.C.C., Guru Nanak College, S.D.N.B. College, D.B. Jain College, Ethiraj College, Saveetha School of Law have actively participated in the various on-stage and off-stage events. Mr. Vignesh Narasimman, Technical Head (Client), British Telecom, U.K. and ITA, TCS, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the cash prizes and certificates to the participants. Guru Nanak College won the overall championship of Synergia 2K16.

The Commerce Department of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science, Chennai has organised an Inter-Collegiate Technical Meet - “Synergia 2013” on 5th September 2013. Mrs. Nagalakshmi Yagnaraman, Vice-President, Polaris Software Lab Ltd., has inaugurated the Technical Meet and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. S. Lakshmanan, Former General Manager, Indian Bank, Chennai has graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
Nearly 350 participants from 35 colleges in and around Chennai have participated in the meet. Renowned colleges like Loyola College, M.O.P. Vaishnav College, S.D.N.B. College, D.G. Vaishnav College, Hindustan College have actively participated in the various events. Dr. K. Malarvizhi, Dean, Hindustan College of Arts and Science chaired the paper presentation. Thiru. T.E. Thiruvengadam, General Manager, Repco Bank – Govt. of India Enterprises, Chennai, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the cash prizes and certificates to the participants. Loyola College won the overall championship of Synergia 2013.

Synergia – Inter Collegiate Technical Meet 2012 was organised by Commerce Department on 2nd March 2012. The meet was inaugurated by A.Rangachari IAAS (Retd.), Former IMF Budget Advisor. Valedictory address was delivered by Shri. K.V. Srinivasaraja, Managing Director, Adyar Anandha Bhavan and President, Chennai Hotels Association. 125 students from 16 colleges participated in the meet. Hindustan College of arts and science won the overall championship.
