Software Training Program – Barclay’s Bank

              Department of Commerce in association with Barclay’s Bank organised a Soft skills Training program for the final year students from 2nd January 2023 to 11th January 2023 through online mode.  The CSR initiative of the Barclay’s Bank provides the essential skills and information to the students to make them competitive in the corporate world.

Selected final year students from B.Com. (Gen., C.A., and C.S.) attended a training programme in Barclays Bank, Chennai on 15th February, 2023.

WORKSHOPS

“College to Corporate (C2C) Transition”

The Department of Commerce took an earnest effort to narrow down the gap between the industry and academia through a National Level Workshop on College to Corporate (C 2 C) Transition workshop. The transformation from the fascinating college life to the demanding corporate expectations is sculptured, smoothened and strengthened through this workshop. It enriches the students to learn the necessary skill sets to confidently face transition which is going to transcend their life.

C2C WORKSHOP-SEPTEMBER 2023

The Department of Commerce organized a National Level Workshop on “College to Corporate (C2C) Transition” on 16th September, 2023. The Workshop aimed to elucidate the transformation process that each student must undergo when transitioning from the academic realm to the corporate world. The Workshop’s inauguration was graced by the presence of CMA. Divya Abishek, Chairperson, Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India who delivered an insightful inaugural address. CMA. Divya Abishek eloquently elucidated the expectations of employers and strategies for students to adequately prepare for the challenges ahead.

Two technical sessions were conducted by distinguished speakers: Mr. V. Sridhar, Assistant Commissioner, Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer protection, Chennai and Ms. N. Harshini, Communication Trainer and Consultant – Certified business, Chennai. These sessions covered a diverse range of topics germane to the Workshop’s theme.

The valedictory address was delivered by Mr. Haroon Nizam, Managing director, Unique Technologies and Consultancy Private Limited, Chennai, who also had the rectitude of distributing certificates to the participants. More than 100 students from various city colleges actively participated in this prestigious National Level Workshop.

WORKSHOP-MARCH 2023

The Department of Commerce organised a Workshop on “Practical Aspects of GST” for Second year students of B.Com (General & C.S.) on 02nd March 2023. An Eminent personality Mr. S. Maheshwaran, Additional Assistant Director, National Academy of Customs Indirect Taxes and Narcotics, Chennai under Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India enlightened the students. He pooled many information regarding GST basics, Assessment Procedures, calculation and returns filing and also cloud burst the students with many more quantitative information of GST. He also shared his personal work experiences with the students for better understanding of the topic. He further elaborated the various concepts of GST with examples in a simpler and easier way.

Seminars

Department of Commerce organised a Seminar on “Strategic Talent Management”  for Final year students of B.Com. (General & C.A.) on  3rd March 2023. The Resource person Ms. P. Anushya, HR Manager,   Templeton Global Service Pvt. Ltd, Chennai      Mrs Vijayashree Suriyanarayanan, Director, Templeton Global Service Pvt. Ltd, Chennai addressed the students.

Department of Commerce organised a Seminar on “Career Guidance on Professional Course” for the selected students of B.Com.(General, C.A. and C.S.) on 28th February 2023. CMA Rakesh Shankar Ravisankar, Member – Cost Accounting Standards Board, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India enlightened the students with various approaches to the Professional courses.

Guest Lecture

The Department of Commerce organized the Investors Awareness Program for II B.Com. (G, C.A., C.S.) on 12 th September 2023. The resource person for the program were Ms. N. Harshini- Communication Trainer and Consultant Certified Business, Chennai. She has imparted diverse insights on investor consciousness and numerous opportunities for investment and her speech was brimming with liveliness and dynamism.

WEBINAR

Financial Services Webinar

           Department of Commerce in association with SEBI organised a one day webinar on “Financial Services” on 4th  and 5th  January 2023 for the second year students.  The Resource Persons for the program are Mr. S. Murali, Branch Mananger (Rtd.), ICICI Bank and Mr. S. Chandrasekaran, Head Placement cum Trainer- Retail Banking.

  • Dr. K.Nirmaladevi, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce Computer Applications attended one week Faculty Development Programme organized by Naan Mudhalvanscheme in association with NSE in Madras University from 30 th January to 3 rd February 2023.

  • M. Jaya, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Commerce attended the Doctoral Committee Meeting of Department of Management Studies, Vels Institute of Science Technologies and Advances Studies (VISTAS) on 19/09/2022.
  • K.A. Sheebha, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce has successfully completed her Ph.D. public Viva Voce examination” held in Annamalai University on 30th March 2023.
  • S. Porkodi, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce appointed as External Examiner for Tally practical examinations in S.D.N.B. Vaishnav College, Chennai on 5th & 6th April 2023.

WORKSHOPS

Department of Commerce organised a National Level Workshop on “College to Corporate (C2C) Transition” on 24 th  September 2022. The Workshop aimed to empower the final year commerce students across the city colleges with the essential skills and information to be competitive in their corporate career. The Workshop sought to explain the transition process to be undergone by each student to elevate to a corporate world from a student life.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Rajalakshmi, Vice-President, Retail Liabilities IDFC First Bank, Chennai with a wonderful inaugural address. She clearly explained the expectations of the employers and methods to prepare for the same. Three technical sessions were handled by Prof. Sridhar Founder, Grand Alliance for Management Excellence, Mr. Raghavendran Srinivasan Director of Operations, Zearath KPO Solutions & Mr. R. Vender Vendan Social Development Consultant, Chennai on the various theme of the workshop. Mr. R. Uppily, Senior Vice President CFD & TPP Operations Indusind Bank Ltd., Chennai, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates. More than 75 Students across the city colleges participated in the workshop.

Seminars

Seminar on Career Opportunities in Logistics and Shipping Industry

Department of Commerce in association with Indian Institute of Logistics organised a Seminar on “Career opportunities in Logistics and Shipping Industry” on 29th September 2022.  The programme aims to provide a birds eye view on the various opportunities in the logistics and shipping industry to the final year Commerce graduates of our college.

The resource person Adv (Capt). V. J. Pushpakumar, Founder, Indian Institute of Logistics, Chennai inaugurated the seminar and shared his rich and dynamic experience to the students.  His address enlightened the students on the career opportunities of the logistics and shipping industry.  The final year commerce students who have participated in the programme are able to understand the various employment opportunities in this specific area .The session was interactive and informative to the students.

The Department of Commerce in association with I.M.E. Institute, Chennai organised a Seminar on “Strategies to ace Competitive Examination” for final year students of B.Com (General, C.A. & C.S.) on 04th August 2022. A vibrant and dynamic personality Mr. Hanumantharao, Manager for Campus Alliance Programmes, T.I.M.E. institute enlightened the students. He shared various ideas and information regarding Competitive examination and also deluged the students with various ideas to prepare for the bank/government competitive exams.

SYNERGIA

Synergia is the Mega Inter Collegiate Meet organized by the Department of Commerce. It is an initiative from the Commerce Department to nurture and develop co-curricular and extra-curricular skills of the students.

Seminars

The department regularly organizes seminars for the benefit of the students. People from various organizations are invited as resource persons. They diversify discussion on the competitive examinations which will facilitate the students to aspire and pursue their career in the Government Sector, the present scenario of differing tax rates.

Conferences

The department organizes conferences and papers were invited from academicians, industrialists, research scholars and UG & PG students related to the conference theme and the articles collected were compiled in the form of an edited book with ISBN number and the same has been released during the Inaugural session.

Guest Lecture

The department organizes guest lectures for the students to gain knowledge in the fields the various professional courses available for their future career, opportunities emerging in IT Industry, Modern Marketing Opportunities and the techniques of online trading.

COMMERCIA – A Commerce Expo

The Department of Commerce organizes COMMERCIA – A Commerce Expo, a platform for the students to exhibit their talents, vigor, creativity and innovation in their specialized commerce stream. The zest of fun games, enthralling food stalls and fascinating sales added colours to this Expo which provides an opportunity to learn, cherish and enjoy their college life.
