Press Report on 25th Graduation Day Ceremony

In his address, Dr.M.Selvaraj congratulated the graduating class on their remarkable achievement of successfully completing their respective courses. He emphasized the importance of not only acquiring intellectual knowledge but also of inculcating human values, urging the graduates to become responsible citizens contributing positively to society. The highlight of the ceremony was the conferring of degrees upon 620 graduates from various departments. Additionally, the University Rank Holders from different academic disciplines were duly recognized and felicitated for their outstanding academic performance.

Dr. T.S. Santhi, Principal of Asan Memorial College, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, setting a tone of enthusiasm and celebration for the occasion. The ceremony was attended by faculty, staff, proud parents, and of course, the graduating students, who were the stars of the day.

The event was characterized by an atmosphere of joy, pride, and accomplishment, as students, faculty, and guests alike came together to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work and dedication and it was a grand success.

Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science celebrated the 30th College Day on 28th March 2024. Dr. M. Ravi, IPS (Retd.), Former Commissioner of Police, Tambaram Police Commissionerate, Chennai was the Chief Guest. Mr. G. Ravichandran, Vice Principal welcomed the gathering and Dr. T.S. Santhi, Principal presented the Annual Report of the college for the academic year 2023-24.Dr. M. Jaya, Academic Asan Institute of Management presented the Annual Report of AIM. The Chief Guest, Dr. M. Ravi, IPS (Retd.), in his address reminded the students that discipline, dedication and determination are the key elements on their path to success. His address inspired and motivated the students to improve themselves and become better citizens of society.

The students who had won various proficiency prizes in academics received their awards and honours from the Chief Guest. Ms. A. Boobharathi (III B.Sc. Computer Science, Shift-I) and Ms. T. Pratheba (III B. Com General, Shift-II) received the Best Outgoing Student Award. Cultural events like dance and drama were organised as a part of the College Day celebrations. The stellar performances added an electrifying effect to the atmosphere at the event. The vote of thanks was rendered by Dr. T. Aryamala, Co-ordinator Shift II. The event was a grand success.

The 30th Annual Sports day was organized by the Department of Physical Education, Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science, Pallikaranai on 26.03.2024 in the College campus. On this occasion, student participants received major honors for their contributions in various sports events. Teaching and nonteaching staff also enthusiastically participated in sports events conducted for them. Mr. M. Madhan of II B.Sc Viscom secured the individual championship for men and the individual championship for women won by T. Pratheba of II B.Com (G) Shift II. The Overall Championship was won by the students of Shift I B.Com (G) and BCA Department students for Shift II. Mr. Sri S.N. Udheya Kumar, Ex-Sports Development Officer, Paralympics Committee of India   Dr. T.S. Santhi, Principal, welcomed the gathering and honored the distinguished chief guest, Mr. Sri S.N. Udheya Kumar, Ex-Sports Development Officer, Paralympics Committee of India. Mr.K.Giridharan, Director of Physical Education, presented the Annual Sports Day report.  The Chief Guest congratulated and honored the prize winners. Mr. C. Anandan, Physical Director, proposed the Vote of thanks. The event was a grand success.

Press Report on Special Lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness

P.G. & Research Department of Microbiology of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science organized a Special Lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness on 2nd February 2024.

The Resource person of the programme Dr.Saritha Damodaran, Senior Clinical & Radiation Oncologist, Parvathy Hospital, Chennai, Board member of Rotary Club of Chennai Medical Fraternity & Chairman – Disease Prevention and Treatment, delivered an insightful and educational talk on breast cancer. She discussed the causes, symptoms, and diagnosis of the disease and emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment. The audience was made aware of the risk factors and preventive measures that could help reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Press Report on PONGAL DAY CELEBRATION

Pongal Celebrations were organised at Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science in a superlative fashion on 12th January 2024 in the college premises.  Students clad in colourful traditional outfits participated in a wide range of traditional competitions including Pongal Vaithal, Pulli Kolam, Karumbu Udaithal, Uri Adithal and Ilavattakkal.  There is something particularly delightful about Pongal Vaithal, where student turned cooks, mingled an eclectic collection of humble ingredients, traditionally cooked it together in firelit clay pots and served up as delicious Pongal. Traditional South-Indian folk art were performed  by students as a part of the festivities, kept upbeat the spirit of the three day harvest festival. Tapping the entrepreneurial skills of students, the kiosks at Pongal Sandhai were a centre of attraction among students and staff members. Mr.  VST Promise Ambethkar, Entrepreneur and a Proud Asan Alumni graced the occasion and distributed  the prizes to the winners. Dr. T. S. Santhi, Principal, Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science presided over the function.  The event was organised by Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Head, Department of Languages and it was a grand success.

Press Report on Best NSS Unit Award

Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science, Chennai has received the *Best NSS Unit Award* at the University level for the year 2022-2023 for their Extraordinary Contribution Towards Society by organising Blood Donation camps for Government Hospitals, Health Camps, Tree planting drives, Desilting of ponds and making it usable by the people of Medavakkam area and creating awareness on Government schemes.

Lecture on “Impact of Global Warming on Microbial Diseases – A Warning to Humanity”

P.G. & Research Department of Microbiology, organized a Lecture on “Impact of Global Warming on Microbial Diseases – A Warning to Humanity” on 20th September 2023. The Guest speaker of the session, Dr. A.K. Kathireshan, Director, School of Life Science, VELS Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), Chennai, gave a Lecture on how a changing climate will impact microbes and leads to the emergence of new infectious diseases and emphasized the measures to be followed to prevent the spread of microbes associated with climate change.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the Women’s Studies Cell of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science jointly organized a Faculty Development Programme on 28th October 2023.

Dr. Thendral. K, Clinical Lead and Senior Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Kauvery Hospital emphasised on the significance of self care for women. Ms. Malarkodi. M, Clinical Nutritionist, Kauvery Hospital, Chennai addressed the women faculty members on incorporating lifestyle and dietary changes for a healthy life. The event was a much-needed wake-up call for women’s overall health.

 

Press Report on ‘A NAtional Level Workshop on College to Corporate(C2C) Transition on 16th September 2023

The Department of Commerce organized a National Level Workshop on “College to Corporate (C2C) Transition” on 16th September, 2023. The Workshop aimed to elucidate the transformation process that each student must undergo when transitioning from the academic realm to the corporate world. The Workshop’s inauguration was graced by the presence of CMA. Divya Abishek, Chairperson, Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India who delivered an insightful inaugural address. CMA. Divya Abishek eloquently elucidated the expectations of employers and strategies for students to adequately prepare for the challenges ahead.

Two technical sessions were conducted by distinguished speakers: Mr. V. Sridhar, Assistant Commissioner, Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer protection, Chennai and Ms. N. Harshini, Communication Trainer and Consultant – Certified business, Chennai. These sessions covered a diverse range of topics germane to the Workshop’s theme.

Press Report on PONNIN CHINGAM – Onam’23 Celebration                 

Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science organized a grand Onam Cultural Festival – PONNINCHINGAM on 23 August, 2023 in the campus. This year’s festivities were a testament to the spirit of the festival. A grand inter-school and inter-departmental  Pookalam competition was conducted with over 100 participants from various schools and colleges across the city.  ‘Onachanda’  a grand shopping festival was organised by the Asan Institute  of Management along with Enactus Club of the college to tap the entrepreneurial skills of the students. It was inaugurated by Mrs. Indira Revi, Member, Asan Memorial Association. Around 50 stalls were raised and it was a remarkable accomplishment with their enthusiastic participation. Various vibrant cultural programmes including traditional Kerala art forms like Thiruvathira, Onapattu and Vanchipattu were performed by the students of the college and AKG Public school.  The function was presided over by Mrs. Shyamala Jayaprakash, General Secretary, Asan Memorial Association. Dr. T. S. Santhi, Principal, Asan Memorial College welcomed the gathering. Dr. C.K. Revi, President, Asan Memorial Association, Dr. Gautam Babu, Joint Secretary, Asan Memorial Association, Mrs. Indira Revi, Mrs. Priya Anoop, Mrs. Niranjani Kishore, Members, Asan Memorial Association were part of the celebrations. The event was a grand success.

Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, was the Chief Guest. Dr.T.S.Santhi Principal, welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest in her address appreciated the graduates on the successful completion of their courses and also urged them to inculcate human values along with intellectual knowledge. Around 700 graduates received their degrees and University Rank Holders were felicitated. The event was a grand success.

The 29th Annual Sports Meet of Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science was celebrated on 16th March 2023. The Chief Guest, Mr. R. Balasubramani, Former Indian Volleyball Player & Manager, IOB , Mahalingapuram Branch in his address stressed on the importance of sports and games for a healthy lifestyle. Dr. T.S. Santhi, Principal, rendered the welcome address to the gathering. Mr.K.Giridharan, Director of Physical Education presented the Annual Sports Report. The Chief Guest delivered the Sports Day address and distributed the prizes to the winners of various games. The Individual Championship for Men was awarded to A. Tejas, III BBA and the Individual Championship for Women was won by S. Indhumathi of III B.Com (G) (Shift- II). The overall championship was bagged by B.B.A for Shift – I & B.Com (G) (Shift- II). The meeting came to a close with vote of thanks conveyed by Mr.C.Anandan, Director of Physical Education, with grand success.

The Women’s Day Celebrations of Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science, Asan Mahila was held on 08th March, 2023. Dr. Renuka Ramakrishnan, Senior Consultant Dermatologist, Leprologist and Social Reformer was the Chief Guest. Mrs. S. Meenakshi, Entrepreneur and eminent YouTuber of ‘Amma Samayal’ Channel was the Guest of Honour. Mrs. Raji Ashok, an auto driver was honoured for her selfless service to society. Miss. Vidyashree, a differently-abled achiever was recognized for exhibiting exceptional determination and confidence despite the odds. As a part of Women’s Day celebration, a series of competitions were conducted for the Non-teaching staff of the College and prizes were distributed. Mrs. Shyamala Jayaprakash, General Secretary, Asan Memorial Association presided over the function. Dr. T. S. Santhi, Principal i/c welcomed the gathering. The women staff and students also presented a variety of cultural performances that added vibrancy to the celebrations. The event was a grand success.

The 15th edition of the International Short Film Festival, Drishya hosted by the Department of Visual Communication of Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science was held on Friday, 10th February 2023 in the college campus. Mr. Mohan Govind, Director and Mr. Ashwin Kakumanu, actor from Pizza 3 movie were the Chief Guests. Entries for short films and documentaries from both Indian and International participants were screened at the festival. The best entries from each category were chosen by a distinguished jury panel consisting of veteran technicians from the film industry like Indian film actor and director Mr. Santhana Bharathi, Mr. Vinoth D Kumar (Associate Cinematographer, RRR Movie) and Mr. Ezhil Fernandes (Story Board Artist, Ponniyin Selvan). Winners were honored with attractive prizes and cash awards. The event was a grand success.
