Academic Outcomes

The curriculum is designed to educate our major subjects in a variety of important microbiological disciplines, as well as to promote and develop skills and competencies that have enduring value away from the classroom. The syllabus focuses on academic readings from emerging fields such as structure, function, diversity, metabolism, and the genetics of metabolic regulation, and the biotechnological application of microorganisms to solve environmental problems.

  • The programme is a broad discipline that involves the study of biology of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi.
  • The programme is structured to impart the students a holistic understanding of the subject giving balanced weightage to both core contents and techniques used in Microbiology.
  • The programme enrich students with knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of the biochemistry, physiology and genetics of microorganisms.
  • The programme nurtures professional ethics for careers in Microbiology and entrepreneurial ventures.

After completion of the B.Sc. Microbiology, graduates will be able to:

  • Create ample knowledge and skills in Microbiology.
  • Expound diversity of microorganisms, microbial growth and metabolism, and the ways to control their growth.
  • Demonstrate good laboratory practices and techniques used in this field.
  • Acquaint the concepts of Immunity, Antigen, Antibody and Immune system
  • Attain knowledge about the relationship between human diseases and pathogenic microorganisms, laboratory diagnosis and treatment methods.
  • Integrate science with day to day life, nutrition, quality control and laws governing the food safety.
  • Acquire Molecular techniques and its application in Microbial Genetics.
  • Comprehend the role of microbes in various environments.
  • Integrate and apply knowledge of the regulation of biotechnology industries.
  • Gain basic knowledge about Microbiology starting from history, basic laboratory techniques and essential facts about the microorganisms.
  • Acquire details on different structure of microbes and ideas on different types of microscope
  • Get sufficient knowledge in relationship between food and microbes, techniques used in food processing.
  • Enable the student to know the methods of translating discoveries of life sciences into practical and industrial products, processes and techniques that can serve the needs of society.

P.G. & Research Department of Microbiology aims to enable the young minds to adopt both theoretical and practical exposure. A student leaving the portals of this institution will find himself/herself equipped with skills that suit a wide spectrum of career choices in areas as varied as academics and research. The programme has a scope in various fields such as Medicine, Clinical Research, Education and various industries such as Agriculture, Food, Pharmaceutical, etc.
