M.Phil.Biochemistry

Department Activities

• PG & Research Department of Biochemistry organized one day workshop on “Molecular Techniques” in collaboration with ABBES Biotech on 20^th April 2022. Both PG & M.Phil students were given hands on training to analyze DNA, proteins and antibodies using the techniques Agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, and Imuno- electrophoresis.

• PG & Research Department of Biochemistry organized a one day webinar on the topic “Scope and Innovation in Biochemistry” on 29-9-2021 by
  P.Seetharaman, Sr. Executive Quality control, Biocon Biologics Limited, Bangalore.
• PG & Research Department of Biochemistry organized a one day webinar on the topic “Scientific Research –Steps, Opportunities and Impact” on 26-11-2021 by Gopinath Venugopal, Post doctoral fellow, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, USA.

Staff Achievements/Participation

• Dr.S.T.Asheeba was invited to deliver a webinar talk on the topic “Covid -19 Vaccination, Desire to Safer Destiny” on 14^th June 2021 at New Prince Shri Bhavani Arts & Science College, Chennai.
• Mr.S.Shanmugam presented a paper on the topic “Phytochemical Screening of Ethanolic extract of Passiflora edulis” in an Era of Vaccines organized by the Neuberg Crew of the Department of Biochemistry, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Chennai on 18^th & 19^th Oct 2021.
• Ms.J.Juliet Poornamathy completed her Ph.D Viva Voce examination on Oct 12^th 2021.

MEDICAL CAMP

• Department of Biochemistry organized a one day Medical Camp in collaboration with Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes, Chennai at Govt.Hr.Sec School, Selaiyur on 21-8-2019. Around 50staff members were benefited by this camp. This camp helped the students of biochemistry to get exposed to practical knowledge.

FARM VISIT

• Biochemistry department staff’s and students visited the farm “ Farm Guru Agritech Centre”,Tiruvallur on 27-7-19. The students served as one day farmers by performing the activities of farmers like ploughing, sowing seeds, planting paddy crops and harvesting. The visit has generated interest among the students on farming, gained the knowledge of not wasting the food and respecting the farmers who are the pillars of mankind.

 INTERCOLLEGIATE SEMINAR “BIOMICS 2018”

Department of Biochemistry organized a one day Intercollegiate seminar cum competition “BIOMICS 2018” on 5th October . Around 50 students from 10 colleges participated and benefited in various competitions such as ADZAP,JAM, Biolyrics and Fireless cooking.

The Programe was inaugurated by Dr. Ezhilarasan Kailasam, Consultant and Head, Dept. of Clinical Biochemistry, Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre,Chrompet,Chennai and a special invited talk on the topic “Awareness on Control Of various Diseases using Healthy Life Style”was delivered.

The Valedictory session was Presided by Dr.Rizwana Begum, JBAS College,Chennai. Prizes were distributed to the winners for various events.

 Industrial Visits

• Students and Staff’s Department Visited the Golden Jubliee Biotech park,SIPCOT,Siruseri on 10-1-2019. The visit served as an eye opener for the students to extend their goal in higher studies by visiting various highly sophisticated analytical instruments used in the field of research.
• Department Organised Industrial Visit to Sree Balaji Dental College at Oral Pathology Lab and Hospital, Narayanapuram, Chennai on 24-09-2018.

• Department of biochemistry organized a one day guest lecture on 14th august 2018 by Mr.Dhatchana Moorthy. N, Research Scientist, Orchid Chemicals on the topic”Cancer Biology-Research opportunities in Industries”.
