The curriculum is designed to educate our major subjects in a variety of important microbiological disciplines, as well as to promote and develop skills and competencies that have enduring value away from the classroom. The syllabus focuses on academic readings from emerging fields such as structure, function, diversity, metabolism, and the genetics of metabolic regulation, and the biotechnological application of microorganisms to solve environmental problems.

  • The programme is a broad discipline that involves the study of biology of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi.
  • The programme is structured to impart the students a holistic understanding of the subject giving balanced weightage to both core contents and techniques used in Microbiology.
  • The programme enrich students with knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of the biochemistry, physiology and genetics of microorganisms.

After completion of the M.Sc. Microbiology, graduates will be able to:

  • Familiarize the concepts of Immunity, Antigen, Antibody and Immune system
  • Attain knowledge about the relationship between human diseases and pathogenic microorganisms,laboratory diagnosis and treatment methods.
  • Acquire Molecular techniques and its application in Microbial Genetics.
  • Acquaint with various microbial fermentation processes  and diverse strategies of food preservation.
  • Familiarize with various ecological niche and microbial interactions.
  • Gain knowledge to mitigate environmental problems using microbial approach.
  • To understand the current state of Microbiology in their area of specialization.
  • Graduates would be able to acquire, articulate, retain and apply specialized language and knowledge relevant to microbiology.

M.Sc.Microbiology

  • A postgraduate course in M.Sc. Applied Microbiology offers a deep knowledge in various branches of Microbiology such as Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Agricultural Microbiology, Applied fields of Microbiology which includes Food Microbiology, Industrial and Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Environmental Microbiology.
  • Application oriented subjects such as Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, and Elective subject such as Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Environmental Biotechnology and Research Methodology.
  • The programme also makes the students scientifically strong to be employed as scientific editors where they communicate scientific concepts, experimental results clearly and concisely.
