Academic Outcomes

The basic objective of a Bachelor of Science programme in Visual Communication is to prepare Graduates for dynamic careers in the Designing Industry, Advertising Agencies, Film Industries, News Agencies and highlights to handle various media sector which includes: Designing, Creating Advertisements, Camera Techniques, Script Writing, Sketching Story Board, Short Film and Documentary Making.

The Objectives of the Programme is to generate a Contemporary creative Learning, Innovating a trend setting technologies, Focused practical classes and International Movie Screening, Cultural and Theatre club are organized. Live painting workshops, Folk arts-acting classes, Special art classes and Musical bands are also conducted.

The Visual Communication Programme has been designed with a semester pattern. The first – year courses are intended to know the basic concepts of Drawing and Graphic Design with the help of various color pencils, color painting using different styles of brushes. The second – year is more purposeful on printing technology, advertisement making, learning the concept of photography and the usage of software for designing with the help of recent trends and technology and the third year provides the core which deals with the cultural studies, television production, media organization, with the practical exposure short film, documentary, ad film, PSA, product photography shoot and an internship training at any media organization.

On completion of B. Sc. Visual Communication Degree, the graduates will be able:

1) To apply practical knowledge on using video editing software, specifically Adobe Premiere or After Effects and/or layout experience using Adobe InDesign and/or experience with web design applications such as Adobe CC (Animate, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).

2) To design front-end web development including programming languages such as Javascript, HTML, CSS, JQuery, and D3.

3) To analyze and invoke in research skills to design, interpret, and make an inference from the result.

4) To communicate in a dynamic way, this makes communication effectively and presents the project in a technical and creative manner.

5) To capture photographs in a creative concept with technical skills and make them a process to a digital display.

6) To analyze a better insight on advertising and marketing communication, it will gain exposure to the different sectors of ad agency and market segmentation in the society.

7) To understand the new technological development of printing the newspaper, magazines, and inking.

8) To gain knowledge on the social responsibilities, relationships of media and society.

9) To generate ideas, writing scripts, developing content and sketching storyboard for various genres.

10) To familiarize with the emerging trends in software and technology to become a successful designer.

I Year I Semester

INTRODUCTION TO VISUAL COMMUNICATION

C.O: Students will learn about, how to communicate with others, the color psychology and the concept of the design.
CO I: Students will learn about the communication skills importance.
CO II: Students will learn about the basic concepts and communication related terms.
CO III: Students will learn about the theories of design and the methodological techniques.
CO IV: Students learn about the color psychology and theories.
CO V: Students learn about the basic concepts of graphic design and also the visual thinking methods.

DRAWING I

C.O: Students will learn to draw real objects/ thing and sketch the portrait
CO I: Foundational skills in drawing – using pencil and pen.
CO II: Ability to draw from real life portraits.
CO III: Ability to use the principles of perspective to evoke a three dimensional space on two and single dimensional surface with depths and shadows.
CO IV: Effective use of shading to create different forms of work.
CO V: Ability to create texture through drawing.

GRAPHIC DESIGN I

C.O: Students will learn about the tools, pattern and texture
CO I: Practical understanding of the elements and principles of Graphic design.
CO II: Ability to use tools and materials – Understanding the Importance of technical and creative knowledge.
CO III: Ability to explore a multitude of alternative solutions for various designs.
CO IV: Knowledge of and ability to use, various pattern making methods.
CO V: Ability to generate complex shapes with the depth and perspective.

I Year II Semester 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

C.O: Students will learn about the concepts of theory and model of Communication Skill

DRAWING II

C.O: Students will learn to draw real objects/ thing and sketch the portrait using colour Pencils

CO II: Skill in developing creative concepts.
CO III: Skill in presentation techniques.
CO IV: Skills in creating symbols.
CO V: Composition skills.

GRAPHIC DESIGN II

C.O: Students will learn to create logos, visiting cards, advertisements, etc., using colour paints.
CO I: Ability to apply the knowledge of the elements and principles of design to solve real world design issues and concepts.
CO II: Understanding of symbols and illustration context of the product and branding.
CO III: Ability to create different types of fonts and effective use of Typography.
CO IV: Ability to design creative printing collaterals with colors and shades etc.
CO V: Understand the concept of perception of colors and presentation skill.

II Year III Semester

ADVERTISING

C.O: Students will learn about the marketing, ad agencies, create advertisements, etc,.
CO I: Basic knowledge and introduction on the vast field of advertising. This unit covers the initial base of understanding the subject and the outcome of the entire syllabus.
CO II: The beneficiaries will gain exposure on the different sectors and market segmentation of the society and also to understand types of advertising.
CO III: To know more in-depth knowledge of the structure and its components of an ad agency and how it provides solutions to the different media that are used. Also, subjective study on consumer’s mind and actions.
CO IV: Role of an ad agency in providing the creative and releasing of advertisement. Usage of different media and understanding the value of ‘brand’ and its components.
CO V: Ideation process and designing aspects that are required for developing an advertisement and also learn the concepts involved and other various elements involved in any kind of advertisement medium.

PRINTING AND PUBLICATIONS

C.O: students will learn about the history of printing and the technology process and the development of black and white print to colour print.
CO I: Students will learn about the history of printing civilization. They will be instructed the technology of printing method and printing machine. Students will learn about the layout designs and software’s used for designing process.
CO II: Students will learn about the plate making preparation and also how to print with various substance .They will learn about the importance of colour and also its major role in printing. They will come to know about the present technological development in printing processes.
CO III: They will learn about the preparation of magazine design and also the importance of typography.
CO IV: Learn the organization of printing press and also how to print using paper and the importance of ink, plate making method.
CO V: Students will be updated in the new technological development in printing process will be exposed.

COMPUTER GRAPHICS

C.O: students will learn about the software to create logos, brochure, posters and product package, etc,.
CO I: Ability to understand the categorization of various industries and the environment of designing culture.
CO II: Students will learn the importance of the logo which acts as pictorial representation of the branding of the company also able to design all marketing collaterals.
CO III: Understand the elements and principles of Computer graphics designing concepts.
CO IV: Ability to present the creative skills, get exposure on software applications.
CO V: Students are exposed to learn technical aspects of printing and publishing.

II Year IV Semester

ELEMENTS OF FILM STUDIES

C.O: students will learn about the history of cinema, and the contemporary technology of current film industry. They will be focused on the different genres and the languages throughout the world.
CO I: Students will know about the History of Film Industry and their Formations and also the Gain knowledge on Contemporary film Trends.
CO II: Students will Learn to write script for Films on their own, and also they learn about the Basics of Pre Production, Production and Post Production Process.
CO III: Students will know about the Film Languages in Technical Point of View like Cinematography, Editing and Sound.
CO IV: Students will gain more Knowledge in Reviewing Narrative and Non Narrative films and also different film genres.
CO V: Students will know about different approaches of Narrative Film, styles and ideology of films.

BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY

C.O: students will learn how to handle camera, lighting techniques, aesthetics, rule of third, etc,. this make them to capture the photographs.
CO I: Basic theoretical introduction to the history of both camera and the term photography. Comparison on the usage of lens and an human eye to contradict its nature Learning about the conventional and digital camera along with its parts.
CO II: Observation on lighting module and learning in-depth knowledge on understanding light both indoor and outdoor. Using filters and flashes to enhance the visual thoughts.
CO III: Knowing more about the different aspects of photography with film sensitivity, exposure and color temperature that signifies the elements of a photograph. Learn more about tonal value, light and shadows.
CO IV: To know more about manual photography and processing of the photographs technically. Understanding framing and composition in terms of field.
CO V: Visual thought process and indulgence of creative quotient that perceives one’s imagination and to learn the core values and aesthetic prospects of photography. Photography in terms of profession and its attributes are provided.

PRACTICAL PHOTOGRAPHY

C.O: students will learn to take photographs of still life, monuments, wild life, etc, using DSLR camera.
CO I: The students are trained for basic techniques.
CO II: The usage of a DSLR and its major components.
CO III: Understanding different categories of learning process in photography.
CO IV: Different aspects of photography are nurtured and exercised in terms of assignments.
CO V: A final project of all the photos are compiled to form an album of basic understanding of photography is portrayed.

III Year V Semester

MEDIA, CULTURE AND SOCIETY

C.O: Media, Culture & Society provides a major international, peer-reviewed forum for the presentation of research and discussion concerning the media, including the newer information and communication technologies, within their political, economic, cultural and historical contexts.
CO I: Students understand the functions of mass media, Role and the power of mass communication in the society.
CO II: Learn about the audience segmentation and audience effects theories.
CO III: Learn about approaches to media and theories of mass communication.
CO IV: Understand the social responsibility of media and the relationship of media and society.
CO V: Student will learn about the culture transformation in the society through mass media.

TELEVISION PRODUCTION

C.O: Television study is an academic discipline that deals with critical approaches to television. Usually, it is distinguished from mass communication research, which tends to approach the topic from a sciences perspective. Defining the field is problematic; some institutions and syllabuses do not distinguish it from media studies or classify it as a sub field of popular culture studies.
CO I: Students will know about production standards and Telecasting Methods in Television.
CO II: Students will Learn to write script for different innovative Television program on their own, and also they learn Production Process.
CO III: Students will know about types of, Camera, lenses, filters, Lights & Mics Updates.
CO IV: Students will gain more Knowledge in video and Audio editing Process

AD PHOTOGRAPHY
C.O: Advertising photography involves taking pictures of products or services. Which helps the students to understand the basics and techniques involved in the industry as well.
CO I: The students are trained for indoor photography and table top photography.
CO II: Students get in-depth knowledge on using props and setting for shooting.
CO III: Post production and editing techniques are introduced to the students.
CO IV: Specialization in different fields of photography are discussed and shot.
CO V: Extracurricular developments and enhancement of projects in print medium are extensively done.

WEB DESIGNING

C.O: It encompasses several different aspects, including webpage layout, content production, and graphic design. While the terms web design and web development is often used interchangeably, web design is technically a subset of the broader category of web development.
CO I: Students will understand the importance of creating their own illustrations, content and Shooting their own picture.
CO II: Categorizing the products and Organizations helps them to get a clear idea about the responsibilities and functioning’s of Various Companies.
CO III: When the thought is processed and converted into words, it takes another dimension for the writer. The importance of paper- Design helps them to produce their visualization of in the stereotype and wire frames.
CO IV: Learning the usability issue and interface design make them to understand the real time issues and give them the confidence and knowledge to handle challenges in designing websites.
CO V: When they work on various types of categories they acquire experience and knowledge, which will get them more opportunity for placements.

III Year VI Semester

TELEVISION PRODUCTION

C.O: Television study is an academic discipline that deals with critical approaches to television. Usually, it is distinguished from mass communication research, which tends to approach the topic from a sciences perspective. Defining the field is problematic; some institutions and syllabuses do not distinguish it from media studies or classify it as a sub field of popular culture studies.
CO I: Ability to generate ideas, writing script and storyboarding for various
Genres.
CO II: Hands on Experience in handling Video Camera and Techniques.
CO III: Hands on Experience in handling Video Lights for various productions.
CO IV: Exposure on editing techniques using software application.
CO V: Hands on Experience in Post production and visual effects.

MULTIMEDIA- 3D ANIMATION

C.O: Animating objects that appear in a three-dimensional space. They can be rotated and moved like real objects. 3D animation is at the heart of games and virtual reality, but it may also be used in presentation graphics to add flair to the visuals. Autodesk 3ds Max, formerly 3D Studio and 3D Studio Max, is a professional 3D computer graphics program for making 3D animations, models, games and images.
CO I: Students will have knowledge of the Origin and development of Animation.
CO II: Students will have the ability to understand the basic concepts that differentiate between the 2 dimension and 3 dimensions.
CO III: They create new concept of 3 D graphics of inorganic structures.
CO IV: Learning to create the walkthrough of any interior/ exterior sets using 3d modeling software.
CO V: Creating the animation for an advertisement with exposure of Visual effects knowledge and all the technical aspects of animation.

MEDIA ORGANIZATION

C.O: Media Organization Law and Legal Definition. The term “media organization” means “a person or entity engaged in disseminating information to the general public through a newspaper, magazine, other publication, radio, television, cable television, or other medium of mass communication. which is very useful to the students to develop their knowledge regarding this paper.

CO I: Learn the basic conceptual of media organization and design.
CO II: Understand the structure of various media organization, culture and status of Indian media Industry. Also the learn about the communication and behavior of media organization.
CO III: Learn about the media economics and market factors of mass media.
CO IV: Learn to make the Production project and media management skills.
CO V: Learn about the audience trends and marketing in media organization.
